What can I say about this man, I know him from my tender ages and I remember him telling me stories from the first WW and the second he is lucky or amazing because he managed to survive both and in both wars he was an infantry.
What has ben done to the image, let see a basic tone-mapping with photomatix and then conversion to BW and dodge and burn to get the wrinkles to pop. -- Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, Which is why it's called the present WARNING: what has been seen cannot be unseen!! The focus, including detail reproduction and dof, expression and the grain in the bg are awesome! Only thing i don't like so much about the pic is the hat (seems a bit distracting to me) and the burnt out highlight on the nose. Otherwise a fine shot!

I like the hat. I think the texture is interesting but maybe a little cropping would do at the top. The burned out areas on the nose and on the shirt are a little disturbing though. Maybe a higher exposure would have worked better. But I really like the composition and his look! He sure seem like a man who's got a story to tell -- "We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow" thanks

I will try to recover that nose because I have that image in RAW so I will prompt you when I do the change -- Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, Which is why it's called the present WARNING: what has been seen cannot be unseen!! Eh I know about the nose
I will try to recover it, because I have a RAW file .. -- Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, Which is why it's called the present WARNING: what has been seen cannot be unseen!! |

Framing is also very good; having chosen to crop the image fairly close to enhance the detail captured, but not to have the face dead-centre or straight on to the camera - a mistake done that can ruin an otherwise great shot, but has been avoided here.
This is a very good shot overall really making you feel as though this is someone who would really have an interesting story to tell from many great experiences.
